Some important things that not allowed to do in Bhutan – Bhutan is not a budget travel destination and not allowed to travel as a backpacker-style. Travel must be organized through Government-approved agencies and be paid in full amount before the visa and ticketing process. If you are traveling alone, you have to pay $40 each day of your stay in Bhutan.

Tour Details

Day 01 – Arrival in Kathmandu and escort to the hotel – we will receive you at Tribhuwan international airport in Kathmandu then escort to the hotel, your hotel will be in the center of Kathmandu called Thamel which is one of the main tourist hubs in Nepal. After checking in the hotel we will talk over your Bhutan trip.

Day 02 – Exploration of Kathmandu city – we will explore some of the historical and pilgrimage sites of Kathmandu city like Pashupatinath Hindu temple, Baudhanath Buddhist Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa, and Kathmandu durbar square which are listed as world heritage sites by the UNESCO.

Day 03 – Fly to Paro and transfer to Thimpu – 1:15 minutes flight – you will fly approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to get Paro airport which will be a very pleasant flight due to see admirable mountain ranges of Nepal and Bhutan. Your guide of Bhutan receives you at Paro airport and he will transfer you to Thimpu by jeep which is 47 kilometers far from Paro airport. After checking in the hotel in Thimpu, your guide brief for you about your tour programs and schedule. In the afternoon you will visit the weekend market called (Thu-Sun) vegetable vendors from different packets of fruits and vegetables. In the evening you will explore Tashichho Drong which houses the throne room of His Majesty the king.

Overnight in Thimphu, altitude 2400m.

Day 04 – Thimphu Sightseeing to Paro (1.5 Hours) – After your breakfast, you will visit handmade paper mills where you will see the traditional method of papermaking. visit the School of Arts and crafts (closed on Sundays, government holidays) students are taught 13 different arts that take over 4 years to graduate from the training school. Drive pass by Memorial Chorten built-in memory of late 3rd King. Visit Buddha viewpoint, world largest sitting Buddha, and proceed to Paro after lunch. In Paro, we can enjoy outdoor activities like wearing Gho/Kira and play archery otherwise we can visit Paro Dzong and Paro National Museum. Overnight in Paro.

Day 05 – Paro Sightseeing- an exploration of Taktsang monastery – After breakfast, drive to the base of trekking point, from here you will hike to Taktsang Monastery or often called Tiger Nest Temple, which is built around a cave in which Guru Rimpoche (also known as Guru Padmasambhava) meditated. The eighth-century old monastery is perched on a rock overlooking a sheer drop and clings seemingly impossible to a cliff at 900m above the valley floor. Tiger Nest Temple is considered, one of the must-visit places around the world before we die. The hike is almost 2 hours, uphill at 30 to 40 degrees inclined for an average trekker however it might take a full day for some depending on your pace. First of half of the hike pulls up to the cafeteria feels never ending however from the half point due to magical structure at your close sight, you are energized to push further. You actually feel very near, push yourself a little further you are at the feet of the Tiger Nest, filled with joys and happiness never like before. And on the way back, you can run down, it is easy always. After the trek, since you will be totally exhausted you will end the day with a perfect hot stone bath with dinner at the farmhouse. Day 06 – Fly back to Nepal or other countries depend on your interest and holiday schedule. Some travelers fly to India to visit Goa, Monali, or other pilgrimage sites of India. Most of the travelers return to Nepal due to the cheap fare of the plane and short distance.

Generally; speaking, Bhutan trips is can be visited throughout the year except during the height of monsoon months (halfway through June to end of August). Even during the winter, people have successfully traveled Bhutan, although cold weather could be detrimental for some, especially if you are a novice trekking trip in Bhutan. If you are planning to do any tours in Bhutan then September to November would be the best season to explore Bhutan.

If your holiday in spring season then February to the end of April is the best season for Bhutan trip because you will see clear mountains view, blue sky, and rewards you with blooming many species of flowers.

Except for the visitors from India, Bangladesh, and the Maldives, all other visitors traveling to Bhutan need a visa. 

Indian, Bangladeshis, and Maldivian nationals can obtain a permit at the port of entry on producing a valid passport with a minimum of 6 months validity (Indian nationals may also use their Voters Identity Card (VIC)). 

All other tourists must obtain a visa clearance prior to the travel to Bhutan. Visas are processed through an online system by your licensed Bhutanese tour operator directly or through a foreign travel agent. 

You are required to send the photo-page of your passport to your tour operator who will then apply for your visa. The visa will be processed by the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) once the full payment of your holiday (including a USD $40 visa fee) has been wire transferred and received in the TCB bank account. Once received, the visa clearance will be processed within 72 working hours. 

At your point of entry, you will be required to show your visa clearance letter, the visa will then be stamped into your passport. 

Online Regional Permit System

In order to streamline and facilitate smooth visitation by tourists from Bangladesh, India, and the Maldives, the Department of Immigration, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs and the Tourism Council of Bhutan have launched the Online Permit System. The system facilitates the online processing of permits for regional tourists through registered Bhutanese tour operators and TCB certified hotels. The facility is offered as an optional channel to process permits for visitors from the region and is applicable for entry from Paro and Phuntsholing. Visitors who use this facility will be able to obtain their permit clearances and route permits ahead of their arrival in Bhutan similar to international tourists. 

From Kathmandu to Paro flight requires that you have a confirmed and booked tour with a Bhutan travel agent, a validly issued visa, and the correct permits for travel in the country. 

Independent travel is not permitted in the country, and the two airlines will not permit the booking of a flight without the confirmation code from the Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) in Thimphu.

You going to do a city tour and only one day’s hike in Bhutan so you don’t need such a lot of clothes and equipment although please prepare with this equipment.
