The Khaptad national park is expanded an area of 225 kilometers of Bajura, Doti, Bajhang and Achham district of Nepal and offers to see gigantic grassy land, charm landscapes, sunset view, huge chain of rocky hills and spectacular view of Api, Saipal and Malika peak from the Patans. Apart of natural beauties; the Khaptad trek or tour commands to explore dozens of religious sites called ashram of Khaptad baba, saileshwori, Ramaroshan, Badimallika and Surma sarowar where hundreds of Hindu devotes visit to pray Shiva during the full moon day of July and August.

The national park also offers to do bird watching tour and research of flora and fauna because according to record of National park the area is covered by subtropical forest of Chir pine and silver birch at lower altitude and sub alpine forest of Fir, Hemlock, Oak and rhododendron, 224 species of medical herbs and 567 species of flowering plants (it is 11% of flowering plants of Nepal) at higher elevation where 270 species of birds, the common ones being different varieties of pheasant, Partridges, Flycatchers, Bulbuls, Cuckoos and eagles. The National park is also very rich for the wild animals such as barking deer, wild dog, wild boar, Ghoral, Himalayan black beer, Yellow-throated Marten, Rhesus monkey and Langurs.

Who was the Khaptad Baba ?

Khaptad Baba’s actual name is swami sachitananda saraswati. He was a Indian doctor who travelled to Nepal for renunciation. For 50 years, he meditated, did Yoga and practiced intensive discipline. During his stay in Khaptad national park he has written some spiritual books as Bichar bigyan, Swastha bigyan, Nari dharma ra purush dharma and Dharma bigyan after that he became famous Holy man and local people start to being his disciple that tis he region why people built his statue nearby the Khaptad Baba ashram one is made of wood and another one is made of bronze.

Tour Details

Day 01 – Once your arrival in kathmandu, one of our representatives welcome you at the airport then escort to your Hotel in Thamel. After introductions your trekking guide will brief you about the trip and trekking gears.

Day 02 – sight trip to the ancient and historical places of kathmandu valley like Pashupatinath temple,Baudhanath stupa,Patan Darbar square and Swayambhunath which is also known as monkey temple.

Day 03 – Fly to Dhangadhi and drive to Dipayal ( 1310 meters.a.s.l) – an early in the morning; we will fly for one hour to get Dhangadhi which is the capital of province number 7 of Nepal and well facilitate with hotels, lodges and restaurant so if needed possible to sip some hot drinks before to catch long drive to Dipayal. From here, we will head towards to Bhatkanda pass by Uttariya chowk and Godhavari Dham and Khandidanda. There are half dozens of restaurant in Bhatkanda and specially the restaurant serves delicious Khir (sweet dish made of rice and milk) After the lunch in Bhatkand we will drive on the serpentine road to get Dipayal where we will spend a joyful night at the guest house.

Day 04 – Drive to Jhigrana and trek to Bichpani ( 1430 meters a.s.l) – an early in the morning; we will explore Saileshwari temple in sigadhi bazaar then we will drive an approximately one and half hours to Jhigrana which is entry gate of the Khaptad national park. From here we will start our pleasant trek pass by undisrupted beauty of subtropical forest of pine and bamboo and continues with subalpine forest of Fir hemlock, rhododendron and oak forest at higher region, hearing the chirp sound of birds and the sight of the flying butterflies. After 5 to 6 hours walk from Jhigrana; we will reach in Bichpani where half dozens of basic guest houses are providing bedrooms and meals for the trekkers.

Day 05 – Trek to Khaptad national park (1940 meters a.s.l) – after breakfast at Bichpani; we will head towards to Khaptad national park pass by massive pasture land, meadows and small streams so we will admire the liveliness of the nature. Further on the way to Triveni dham; we will pass the confluence of three Rivers known as Ganga, Jamuna and saraswati and as well as saraswati temple. The temple is premises of Triveni dham have the statues os Ganesha, Annapurna, Shiva-Shankar and Bhasa. After 5 to 6 hours walk from Bichpani bring us to Khaptad national park which is our final destination of the trek.

Day 06 – Exploration around the national park – as described, it is not only national park but also a living museum for the natural beauties, cultures and spirituals so after the breakfast we will try to be close with nature with view of snowcapped peaks, huge chain of rocky hills, Lakes and green forest. In afternoon we will explore Khaptad Baba ashram, museum where can be seen photos and parts of dead animals and in the evening we will do Yoga and prepare to return back to Bichpani.

Day 07 – Trek to Bichpani (1430 meters.a.s.l) – there is not any alternative trail for return back to Bichpani so we will follow same trail with charms views of rocky hills, streams, meadows and grassy land where could be grazing goats, sheep, cows and horses. While we are returning back from Khaptad national park to Bichpanai we will explore a religious site called Sahasra Linga where can be seen thousands of Lingas and three points of stones and the first point is believed to be lord Sahashreswor, the second point is Goddess Parvati and the third one is Ganesh.

Day 08 – Trek to Jhigrana and drive back to Dhangadhi (109 meters a.s.l)-we will start our trek earlier than previous days to trek until Jhigrana and long drive to Dhangadi. during the driving period we will have fascinating view of green forest, nice valley of Seti River and serpentine narrow road. we will have our lunch at Dhadeldhura and also we will do quick exploration of Salmuni and Bhageswar temple which are located just bank of the Seti River and very spot for marriage for the Dalit people. when we will arrive in Dhangadi, we will take a tour of Shivapuri Dham and overnight at a hotel in Dhangadi.

Day 09 – After breakfast in Dhangadi we will fly back to Kathmandu, escort to hotel and share our great experience to the friends about our spiritual journey of Khaptad national park.

Autumn season is considered as best season to do trekking trip in Nepal due to see magnificent Himalayan views, clear sky without any clouds and Spring season is second best season to explore Himalayas of Nepal because will be dry weather and dusty; means poorer Himalayan views but the compensations are several; fewer crowds, warm weather and spectacular Rhododendrons, magnolias and Orchids blooms.

October to November – In general the first two months of the dry season offer the best weather for trekking and the main trails are heaving with trekkers at this time, for good reason.the air is crystal clear, the mountain scenery is superb and the weather is still comfortably warm.

December to February – These months are also good time for trekking trip to higher region but the cold can be bitter and dangerous at high altitudes. Getting up to the higher region and high passes can be a real endurance test and high passes are often blocked by snow.

March to April – These months are dry weather and dusty; means poorer Himalayan views but the compensations are several; fewer crowds, warm weather and spectacular Rhododendrons, magnolias and Orchids blooms.

June to September – These months are rainy season of Nepal so monsoon rains bring landslides, slippery trails and hordes of leeches. Raging rivers often wash away bridges and stretches of trekking path.

Khaptad national park is one of the protected area of Nepal so for those trekkers who want to trek or travel into the national park then have to pay 1500 Nepali rupees per person for entrance fee.

khaptad national park trek is can be explore as a teahouse trek but the lodge, bedroom and meals would be very basic. If trekkers want to do camping trek with tent then there are beautiful camping ground along the trekking trail.

Dhangadi is entrance gate for the Khaptad national park and there are two options to get Dhangadi from Kathmandu either 14 hours drive public bus or 1 hour flight by air.

Food – All tea houses have similar menus which feature local traditional Nepali items such ass local hand made breads, potatoes and Dal Baht which rice served with lentil soup with vegetable curry and typical pickles and selected western dishes like pasta, macaroni, pizza, noodles and burgers. Keep in mind most dishes are vegetarian.

Water – water bottle is available in all tea houses however, be mindful of the environmental impact your purchase/plastic bottle will have. Untreated water is available in all teahouses free of charge. Carry your own water treatment system. Boiled water is available for additional charge.

Accommodation -You will be sleeping in private rooms in teahouses. They usually have two single beds with mattress and blankets are available by request. Bathrooms (squat style) are mostly shared; you will need to carry your own toilet paper. Toilet paper is available for purchase throughout the trek. Cold showers are always available. Hot showers or hot bucket are available in some teahouses for additional charge.

One can get fairly excited about a trip to a previously unknown location. But while traveling you need to make sure that you have all materials that you would require to be ready for every possible situation. And here in Nepal, you will most definitely need to pack a few things for your stay to be as smooth and memorable as possible.
